Long needles do a great job for long flies, but what about those shorter tubes, the tubes you'd tie for summer fish and low water. With the mini tapered pin we offer, there are many uses, but the prime role is for holding and tying a short tube. This can be done in a number of ways - mandrel holding, the tube pushed on to the tapered pin only, or vee 'pinched', also supported on the taper, but 'pinched' with the front of the vee held via the clamp screw. Our tube tool is supplied with the tapered pin but it can also be purchased separately.
Our product is unique in the marketplace in that it has been tailored for smaller fly tying. How often do you end up reaching for the small flies? Is there never enough water when you fish?
Along with our tapered pin, we can also supply our micro pin. This is a fine diameter pin tailored for use with small bore plastic tube such as bottle tube liner tube. As with both our pins, we fill the long overlooked niche of supplying tools that suit the tying of small to medium sized tube flies. In the design and manufacture we have created a pin perfectly suited to small to medium tube fly tying. It can easily hold a tube up to 27mm in length (capable of tying a good 'medium' size fly), but importantly, the design also allows for those small fine tubes to be locked into place by sliding them firmly up on to the secondary taper and diameter.
It simply becomes easier to tie those micro flies for spate rivers and tricky fish. Just the sort of low water flies perfect for Ireland to Iceland and Scandinavian rivers that flow with a clarity that demand stealth tactics when rain is overdue. Most importantly, no more fighting with a tube fly needle that is just too long for micro tube tying.
The precision micro pin is tailor made for small plastic tube of 1.8mm outside diameter/ 1.0mm inside diameter typical of many brands of liner tube.
Long Scandi salmon angling or Nordic salmon angling needles can of course still be used with our tube fly tool for tying longer flies in your fly tying vice.
